FIFA World Cup 2010 Groups

Draw for FIFA World Cup 2010 was announced on 4th December in a star-studded event held at Cape Town’s International Convention Centre in South Africa. FIFA secretary General Mr Jerome Valcke, chose the balls along with the Hollywood superstar Charlize Theron from the four pots to create the eight groups for the World Cup event which is scheduled to be start from 11th June. The draw, which consists of the top 32 teams in the world has been divided into 8 groups, which can be seen as follows.

A favorable draw in the first round of the FIFA World Cup is essential for teams wanting to progress to the later stages of the tournament. After seeing the draw, all of the favorites to win the World Cup, with the exception of Brazil and Portugal who were drawn together in Group G with Ivory Coast, will be happy with their groups. Spain, England, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Netherlands and France will all be strong favorites to progress to the second stage of the tournament.

The Group Of Death:
Group G, which contains three strong teams, Brazil, Ivory Coast and Portugal, looks to be dubbed the inevitable Group of Death. North Korea has an almost impossible chance of qualifying from this group and. it's inevitable that at least one strong team will also be knocked out.

The Group Of Life : Of all the World Cup Groups, F looks to be the weakest. Italy was placed in this group and will be a strong favorite to reach the second stage of the tournament. Paraguay will also fancy their chances of qualifying form Group F. England and the USA have been drawn together in Group C and will both be strong contenders to progress to the second stage of the competition. The draw will have improved both England's and the USA's chances of reaching the second round and possibly going on to win the tournament.
